Field visit on remediation of a polluted site at Santerra, Halle
Field visit
2024-11-13 | 01:00 PM - 05:30 PM | Gieterijstraat, 1502 Halle
Session details
The site visit related to soil pollution will bring you to a former soap factory near Halle, a town in the province of Flemish Brabant in the Flemish Region of Belgium, which is currently being remediated. This site visit is hosted by Santerra, a company undertaking purchase and remediation of contaminated sites, and part of the Mission funded project ISLANDR. Soil pollution due to historical industry activities often leaves areas unsuitable or unsafe for use. As such, remediation of polluted sites not only enables renewed use of formerly polluted sites, but also benefits the surrounding environment. During the visit, the processes of remediation and the plans for redevelopment will be explained. A stream runs close to the site so discussion will also include the impacts of remediation on improving the environment of the river at the site and downstream.
